Paul Merson says Liverpool have no chance of moving through the Premier League season despite their superb start to the year – and also ponders whether Mauricio Pochettino has taken Tottenham as far as he can…
Liverpool will not go unbeaten, not a opportunity. Exactly what Arsenal did all those years before, that is some. What Liverpool are currently doing, winning these matches on the trot is ridiculous.
They were not great the other day. They looked like the team that might nick that, although Liverpool didnt deserve to lose, After Leicester obtained to 1-1. They had been the better team, but they kept on going and you need to get some breaks every now and again.
No-one is going to return on October 5 and also remember the penalty, but that spot-kick could have been a massive, massive goal.
Everyone forgets about what the results are from October and November, when you win league names. Everybody thinks about what happened in May or April, however, the penalty could be massive in the context of the title race.
Liverpool are just one win away from equalling the record. As they bid to Manchester Citys 2017 record, theyve got Manchester United at Old Trafford and also Tottenham at Anfield in the next two matches.
These were their toughest two matches, After the fixtures came out. They are their two matches that are most easy on paper. However, Manchester United is known by you. This will be their cup and certainly, they cant be bad again, can they?
United will surely be under pressure but so will Liverpool. You should make sure that you keep up on winning when you are up in the top.
At the start of the season you believing a point at United is a outcome that is good and are most likely looking at this match. You dont know how awful United are likely to be and youve got a bit of a plan across the way in regard to what points you expect for you. Liverpool are now. They have got points where they likely thought they werent going to get them so a draw will be fine for Liverpool in this match.
If Jurgen Klopps side took four things I believe Manchester City would be in trouble.
What Liverpool are doing today, it is more than impressive. They have easily rested on their laurels. They did nothing wrong in the group, but another group proceeded to win 14 games and they was just pipped at the place.
They did not, although they could have easily felt accountable for themselves. They have come back and been exceptional.
There is a gulf in class in this league and once in a blue moon underside will beat very top, but to do exactly what they have done, week in, week out and winning football matches is outstanding.
They are not drawing football games. Theyre winning each week and its not like theyre currently using 30-odd players. I think when Sadio Mane Mohamed Salah or even Virgil van Dijk got injured they could fight, but they have got points at the bank now.
I have said that this side is not getting overcome by any side in the bottom half and also Manchester City have been defeated by two teams at the bottom half already. Theymay manage a slip there or here andve got the things. Liverpool could be beaten by manchester City and it would not really make a difference. It is all in their hands.
There is still a long way to go though.
You have only got to really have a bad day at work and it all could unravel. I did it was shaded by the match on Liverpool and Saturday. They had been the better team and were comfortable, but in regards on 1-1 the left breaks down and right also when there is a final move Leicester get in and can lead 2-1. It is a different game .
Were taking a look at a weekend and I really dont think the pressure would have been around Manchester City as much as it was. Their match becomes somewhat different.
There are 30 matches. It is still a long way to choose Liverpool and it requires a few choices here or there to change everything. There are 90 things offered and that a great deal of things to play with.
But , I say it all the time, you may be the very best director in the world but in case you have not obtained the players. Pep Guardiola, whos playing Fernandinho in centre-back alongside Nicolas Otamendi, hasnt obtained the players.
Fernandinho will get found out eventually. For them to not go and buy somebody when a country is owned by them is a complete joke. They need to have four or even three players in each place.
I really dont need to say it is Liverpools title because theres quite a way to go to throw off. No-one has won the league in eight soccer games, but if they keep on doing what they are doing, it is going to be hard for anybody to grab them.
The players needed the title last year snatched from them. It was removed from them afterwards Man City won 14 soccer matches and Vincent Kompany stuck in the upper corner from 30 metres. Liverpool know things can happen. This Manchester City team will get on a roll and roll off 10 on the trot so theres a long, long way to go.
It is stressing times for Tottenham.
Since if they lost 7-2, I did see an awful lot wrong with this, I was for them the other day. I thought because that game could have gone either way, they have lots of criticism for no reason.
Spurs had opportunities in the first half and they couldve been three or four up at half-time. In 4-2 they were in the game, but a mad five minutes cost them. I backed them because I thought it wasnt too bad as everyone made out.
But what was an absolute joke. It turned out to be a joke that is worrying.
In football terms, for brushed and blown away by Brighton was a tragedy. As it gets on the football field, it was as worrying.
People said to me after the Bayern match that Pochettino appeared a bit calm. Since the game was watched by him, he was calm and it was not as bad as what it seemed. Simply take the few minutes away and its 4-2. Youd sit back and consider what a terrific game it was that it couldve gone either way. However, the game against Brighton has been a joke.
They ought to be exceedingly embarrassed. I think the previous time Brighton scored three goals in a game!
Times for Pochettinos worrying.
As a supervisor you get to phases in your profession and you can just take a team as far as it is possible to take them. You can not take them. I am unsure whats happening at Tottenham.
There are styles of losing football games and that was not a great method to shed. I had sitting there on Sunday afternoon thinking, When I was the manager,Are these players ? . You seem the day when they went to Swansea.
They couldnt win a match for toffee and were bottom of this league, but they broke a gut and obtained a result for his or her manager. I look at this and I think that those players are using the manager. They will operate through a brick wall for him and are not mugging that manager off.
But when I look at the Tottenham team getting chucked and I mean brushed by Brighton, youd need to ask serious questions.
