The remarkable increase of teenager Bianca Andreescu continued as she came from a set down to sink Elise Mertens and hit the last four of the US Open.
The 19-year-old has increased from 152 from the world at the onset of the year and today has a grand slam appearance after her stirring 3-6 6-2 6-3 victory.
Mertens had fallen just 16 matches on her way into the previous eight, and appeared in control after from the first set, but she was finally blown off by the Canadian.
The 25th seed from Belgium, mertens, created an early separation that she clinched the set by an ace and did not relinquish.
It was a beginning from Andreescu a competition that is fiery and emotional, however she broke early in the moment only to get back on level terms.
On the other hand, the kid was finding her voice, along with her range, breaking two longer to select the set.
Andreescu was starting a humid New York day, drenched in sweat and taking swigs of water between things.
She needed to reevaluate the points and Mertens, who had been busted in game eight was eventually told on by her aggressive groundstrokes, along with a pounding backhand down the line wrapped up the victory.
“That is really so mad,” said Andreescu. “Last year I had been in the round, and with what I’ve accomplished this season I’m speechless.
“I want someone to pinch me right now. Is this real life?
“I believe the experience from playing with these huge tournaments last year is just catching up.
“Elise played really well so I tried to stay calm. I was becoming irritated. I told me to stay calm and stick to the tactics.”
Andreescu and Belinda Bencic at Thursday night’s next semi-final will perform with.
“It is definitely not going to be easy,” added Andreescu. “She is an incredible player but I can play my very best tennis.”
